The very first trombone I bought myself was a vintage 88H; ever since, I've had a soft spot for Conn trombones. I'm very fortunate to have an interesting pair of Conn tenor trombones to use. One is an 88HTG, with a bell section assembled by the pre-Schilke Greenhoe company using Conn and Greenhoe parts. The handslide is a standard SL4747 large bore slide. I use it most often with a Shires 2.5 leadpipe. Though it came with a standard brass valve cap, I use a custom nickel and lexan cap for a slightly lighter feel. The second trombone is a straight 8H. The bell is likely from some time in the 1960s based on its engraving. The original slide was not present when I bought it; instead an SL2547 dual bore slide (medium/large) was included with Conn's X large shank leadpipe.
I often use the dual bore slide with the 88HTG bell section; that combination makes a great solo and chamber music instrument. When using the dual bore slide, I play a Hammond 10MXL mouthpiece. On the larger SL4747 slide, I use the shallower 10ML to balance things out.
