SE Shires custom
bass trombones

As with my tenor trombones, I'm very fortunate to have two different setups that I can mix and match to suit different circumstances.  My go-to configuration uses a dual bore slide by Edwards with a Shires bell section:  BII 1Y bell, BGC tuning slide, and independent rotors.  The other instrument started its life in the now-discontinued Shires ProSelect line but has been customized with a different leadpipe, tuning slide, and with a screw bell conversion.  It currently specs out as having a  B1 2G screw bell, BB tuning slide, and independent rotors paired with a standard B62 slide with nickel crook and oversleeves.  This ProSelect was also modified to be able to exchange bells with the custom line of parts.  As a result, either bell or tuning slide can be mounted to either valve section.  As the valve sections are the same, I did not modify the handslides to be interchangeable.

Regardless of whether I play the single bore or dual bore slide, I like to keep the yellow brass bell paired with a gold brass tuning slide.  The gold brass bell works very well with yellow brass tuning slides, including the Blair Bollinger tuning slide I now use with it.
